Mapawa Falls and Nature Park

the hills and mountains in cagayan de oro conceal trails with green scenery and white waters, ideal for mountain bikers, trekkers, and to those seekers of nature adventures! the cascading waterfall in sitio mapawa is one of the favorite water destinations in the city. the falls has a cold blue water, lots of stone formations and more fun adventure to do. the nature park offers zipline adventures where it has 6 stages from a mini to extremes, rappelling in two stages from a refresher to a high-pro rappel, and a monkey bridge along the forest trees.

Philippine Ostrich and Crocodile Farms

as we all know, the ostrich is the largest living bird. in the philippines, engineer lorenzo u. limketkai and his son heintje, back in 1996 pioneered ostrich farming. they started 3 breeders and eventually multiplied to thousands of it. the farm has 9.8 hectares and they also took an eye to numbers of crocodile and lambs.

Divine Mercy Hills

this shrine serves as a pilgrimage for divine mercy devotees. with a 50-feet tall statue overlooking the malacajar bay. as a pilgrimage and sacred site, visitors are not allowed to wear shorts and other revealing clothing. those who do so will be forced to cover themselves with a blue cloth provided by the shrine administrators. witness a paradise came to life.

Sampaguita Gardens

sampaguita gardens is owned by precious heart moments creator sam butcher. the gardens is a resort, amusement park, convention center housed under one mansion. with circus rides, spa swimming pool, gym facilities. a 43 ft aquarium, jojo's christmas cottage, a butterfly far and a precious moments museum.

Taoist Temple

it was built by cebu's substantial chinese community (the chinese make up about 15% of Cebu's population).

the temple is the a center of worship for taoism, the religion which follows the teachings of the ancient chinese philosopher, lao tze. you can see taoist devotees following their rituals on wednesdays and sundays, as they climb the 99 steps of the temple to light joss sticks and have their fortunes read by the monks.

built in 1972, it is constructed in a highly ornate and, some would say, gaudy style of chinese architecture, and is topped with a pagoda-style roof.

the temple has an elevation of 300 meters above sea level, and if you climb the 99 steps to the entrance, you will be rewarded with a good view of cebu city and in the distance mactan and bohol islands. nice sunset views too. :)

Statue of Lapu-Lapu

a statue of lapu lapu (circa 1491-1547 AD), the filipino warrior king who killed ferdinand magellan, can be seen on the island of mactan. the statue is thought to be on the exact spot where the battle was fought and where magellan was killed.

a church has been erected in his honor and the town of opon, mactan island, was renamed lapu-lapu city.

souvenirs and guitars and historical explanations are also present in this place.

Culajao Mangroove Eco Park

culajao mangrove eco-park is a 10-15 minute ride away from roxas city plaza via the new road traversing brgy. mongpong and banica. there is an entrance fee of P20 for adults, P15 for students and P10 for children.

it is a project of the city government of roxas in partnership with the Katunggan sa Culajao Salbaron Association (KACUSA), Inc. And PEW Fellows Program. in Marine Conservation.

they have several packages for tours that include a bamboo raft (banca) ride along the river to get a closer look of the 19 species of mangroves that serve as habitat for a vast variety of fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, and shells. listen to a live composo about mangroves and culajao. watch the herons and other exotic bird species flying around catching fish. a fish cage is also available for hook and line fishing.

the culajao eco park is perfect for educational tours, barkada weekend excursions, or a simple family picnic. there are cottages available. boats are also available for those who wish to experience the park in a different way.
